Southeastern Nationals Demolition Derby & Frog Gigging

That's right...I went to a demolition derby.  On Mother's Day weekend we went to Lexa to spend time with Grady's fam.  On Saturday night though, an opportunity presented itself that we just couldn't turn down.  The Southeastern Nationals Demolition Derby was in Tunica - so we decided to go.  "The Derby" is something that Grady is no stranger to - me on the other hand - no idea.  I will say that it was quite the adrenaline rush (until I realized how dangerous it was for us to even be sitting as close to the cars as we were) and that I really am glad that I went.  Don't know that I'll be heading back soon...but none the less.  I took some pics to try and capture the intensity of this...they don't do it justice but I did my best.
Yes those cars are upside down - and people were in there when they got that way.  These cars aren't Nascar cars with all their roll bars and cages and million safety features.  They are completely stripped down with an egg crate mattress duct-taped to the driver's door for cushion, and the most protection the driver's wear is a helmet - no fire suit.  Yeah, I was freaking out a little.

Frog Gigging also was a big event while we were in Lexa, only it was this little punkin' that was doing the hunting.
She discovered the little tree frogs on Friday night, and when she couldn't find them on Saturday night, she decided to go hunting.  She sniffed them out, dug them up, and much to her dismay, no matter how much she pawed at them, they just wouldn't jump.  I don't think she wanted to hurt them really, just play, but they weren't convinced so they just played dead.  Her dedication was really cute though!

All in all we had a great weekend and enjoyed getting to celebrate Mother's Day with Grady's wonderful Mom and his family.  Can't wait to get back soon!!
